We got talking to an elderly man in the local park one day.  He had lived in Canada before, and then decided to move back to Hong Kong.  As we talked, we found out that he had never owned his own personal Bible in his life.  Not even one.  It is so sad that no one ever had offered this man a Bible.  In all his 70 or 80 years, had he never owned his own Bible?  We left him that day, and as we did, we thought about how many people are just like him.  How many wish they could own their own Bible but never do.  How many more own maybe two or three Bibles, yet never read them?  All around the world there are people who do not know of the message inside that Bible. 

Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved

The Blank Piece of Paper

Sometimes we need to go to the other side of the world to learn something new.  We went to a church in Sheung Shui, and there in that little town, we learned something big for us.  We often “write” down all our prayer requests; maybe not on an actual piece of paper, but we often have a list of requests for the Lord.  We need this, or that, or we have planned this event and that function.  Then we might ask the Lord to bless our activities and answer these requests.  Often our prayer requests are only what we want for our lives.  We can fill up that paper with our lists of things for God to do. However, the Lord Jesus is actively praying for us.  What does He pray about?  Instead of handing God a list of things to do, how about considering what He prays for?  We learned a very huge lesson in that little, wee town on a tiny island, that does not even show up on a world map.  We want to pray the same way the Lord prays, and what He is praying for in our lives, we are praying the same.  When we set down the pen, the Lord can write the list this time.  He knows exactly what we need.

December 10^th

We wanted to adopt from Hong Kong, but have found out that because we are Canadian, this will not be possible.  Americans and other international countries can adopt from Hong Kong, but not Canadians.  So sad. Today we watched our niece’s Christmas performance.  She was all dressed up and singing her heart out.  Her class was performing this theme song.  Thank you Lord for such encouragement.   May we all turn to the Lord in our time of need.

December 12^th

Mondays are always hard and this Monday was harder than ever.  Our family had made an appointment to go to the Hong Kong orphanage, knowing full well that we are not allowed to adopt from Hong Kong.  We were not allowed to take any pictures.  This is the first time our children had ever seen an orphanage since there are none here in Canada.  It was so hard to have that tour and see all the babies, and special need children who have no family.  We had to walk away and do absolutely nothing – cannot help one.  It broke our hearts. 

Come unto me, the Lord says, you who are weary and I will give you rest.

One Small Book

We met him again!  The elderly man who never had a Bible in his life.  We bumped into him again and thank the Lord – this time we had a Bible with us!!  Previously, we had gone to a Christian bookstore and bought one for him, so that we would be able to give him a Bible if we ever saw him again.  It happened!  We met him again, very unexpectantly.  He couldn’t believe that we had bought a Bible for him!  He expressed his thanks over and over again; how happy he was to receive his very own Bible! We talked to him about it for a while, he was so lively and full of questions.  The Lord loves us to ask questions.  Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.  Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.  Isaiah 1:18

Hong Kong is made up of over 200 islands all connected either by under-sea tunnels, bridges or ferries. This bridge is by Noah's Ark.

Throughout this amazing trip to Hong Kong, we have been so thankful to spend time with family and friends.  We are thankful for good health, grateful for our children, and happy to celebrate the birth of another little member of the family – Fai’s brother’s newborn son.  The list goes on and on – we are so thankful that the Lord brought us to Hong Kong to grow in the knowledge and the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.  We had our own hopes and agenda for this trip to Asia, but the Lord in His grace, changed our agenda and did other things that we could not have planned ourselves.  Of course, there are so many things to write about, and how does one get the time to write them all down?  I think sometimes, all the paper in the world is not enough space to show the love of God in each of our lives.  How much He is reaching out to you.  May we not miss His call.

Pray without ceasing

Hong Kong is a photographer’s paradise!  It is a showcase of spectacular beauty!  The creation of God that brings me to my knees at the wonder of it all.  As we twisted and turned on the ever winding roads lined with tropical flowers and trees, my heart filled with thankfulness, and every time I look up at those rugged mountains that covers these islands, I am so grateful that we can be here. 

Lord, lead us in Your path

This land is not even big enough to be seen on a world map, yet God sees into the depth of every precious heart who lives here.  In God’s eyes, He sees here a land waiting, hoping, longing, a harvest that is ready and waiting for the workers to come.  Many people may pass by this little group of islands called Hong Kong.  The name Hong Kong means “the place that is full of a beautiful fragrance”.  Truly this place is a beautiful fragrance to the Lord – each heart that is calling out to Him. 

We have so many plans, so much excitement!  At the start of every journey there are so many hopes and dreams.  But I made the mistake of having my prayer list all complied and planned.  I “handed” my prayer requests to God almost like I was giving Him a list of things to do. 

I needed to realize that I really need to give God a blank piece of paper, and let Him do all the writing.  Let Him write down the prayer requests.  I need it to be God’s list – not my own.  May He write His will and His words upon our lives, and in our hearts.  May our prayers not be full of our plans and then ask God to bless them all.  Instead, may our prayers be His prayers.

May His hopes and His ways be revealed to us.

Having this empty page before me as we embarked on this exciting trip to Hong Kong, there is no telling what the Lord may do. We didn’t know what the Lord had in mind. It may be something we have never expected.

Now we can begin waiting…..for real…..
One thing that we were talking about as we were on that long drive to the agency was how everyone (ourselves included) are so focused on the end result.

We feel that the end, the solution, the final completion, is the most important matter. We put all our energy and thoughts into getting to the end of the journey.

The Lord, on the other hand, doesn’t only focus on the end result like we often do. He is very much concerned about the process, the journey…what is learned along the way.

Each day of our lives is very important to Him, because He values every moment that He can teach us and reveal His mercy and grace to us. What a wonderful Lord and Saviour and Friend we have, who is concerned about the little things, the fine details, and every step of the way however small it may be.

If we too, look at our life as God does, and see the small steps as the important ones, then He can fill our hearts with awe at His amazing love and care for us along life’s paths. When it seems like He has not been by our side, perhaps it was because we were too focused on the end result, forgetting all the blessings He wants to teach us along the way. Perhaps we have been discouraged because we have been so, so, so far away from that distant end result that never seems to be in our reach. But, meanwhile, the Lord has so much glory that He wants us to see during the journey. He is always waiting for us….the Lord does alot of waiting – waiting for us to open our eyes and see Him. He has open arms for you and a heart full of mercy.

To your Lord and Saviour, there is nothing that can separate you from His love, He loves you, His precious son, His precious daughter. May we wait upon the Lord and see His grace.

Our home located in the Durham Region, opened February 2009. It is a safe home for young women in need of a loving & nurturing environment during their time of pregnancy and up until their baby is 6 months old.

Our Mission is to shelter and educate homeless, pregnant and parenting young women by assisting in providing comprehensive services that empower them to make successful life decisions for themselves and their babies.

Our home will provide food, clothing, individual counseling and help to facilitate a way for the girls to receive medical care, childbirth/parenting classes, mandatory participation in education or job training, practical life skills lessons and independent living skills training.

W.I.N.G.S. Home mandate is to help the “mommy to be” break the potential negative cycle associated with teen pregnancy: Abortion, High risk births with premature and low birth-weight babies, Interrupted education, repeat teen pregnancy, Poverty, Dependence on public assistance and Child abuse and neglect in the next generation.

We also liason with other charitable, non-profit community and government agencies and organizations to improve the quality of life of these young women by referral to, or help in creating new solutions if a need arises for supportive services.

A small little child to some may not seem like much, but to God, one child is worth more than any riches we can ever imagine.  Investing in that one precious child, who God treasures with all His heart, is worth every minute of time.  For God does miracles with small things.  Nothing is too insignificant for Him to care about.

Before Birth

Jeremiah 1:4-9 and Isaiah 49:1  -God has called the unborn baby by name.  He has formed the baby in the womb and He has a hope and a purpose for that unique unborn person.

 A Baby/Young Child

God calls them – they are the ones so important in His kingdom. Luke 9:18.  He has asked us to never cast them away.   

Childhood/Teenagers

A Child can have a personal friendship with God – this is His desire. 1 Timothy 3:15

God gives comfort to children – Jeremiah 1:6-8

 1Timothy  4:12 -Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

One small child…

He or she is worth all the waiting, worth all the time.  We need to keep on planting, keep on watering, and God will give the increase.  In His beautiful moment, His miracle will unfold.

Yohannan.  It has been powerfully encouraging in our adoption journey.  In the work that God has placed on our heart to do, often times, it seems so hard….actually impossible to do it.  The burden we have is so heavy, the road is only ever uphill, and we feel like we can’t carry this burden anymore.  The work is just too hard!  The resources are too few, the time is too long, the push against us is too strong……..

The path is difficult but the Lord will carry us through safely

But really, this is not our work at all.  This is God’s work.

 Come unto me, the Lord says, all you who are heavy laden.

 The burden or the calling that the Lord has laid upon us is not our burden or calling at all.  It is the Lord’s calling. It is his burden.  When applying this to the defenseless child, to help them is entirely the Lord’s calling, this is His heart.  The burden of the Lord is light because the burden is the Lord’s, not ours to carry.  He is the one that carries us. 

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

WOW!!! First….A great big thank you to the Lord because He is amazing at turning things around for the best!

Well, it rained on our yard sale! It was the only Saturday we had available in June. All the other Saturdays in June, we were in the all-day, compulsory adoption classes. So, the only Sat we had free, it rained!! We had to put tarps over all the stuff to protect it. We set up lots of things in the garage and under the porch. We were wiping things down with towels…. not good…..

I wanted to explain all this to encourage others. How can a rainy yard sale be encouraging?

During our lives there are always things that just don’t work out. But is that really true? In God’s eyes did it not really work out? I am beginning to see that in God’s eyes, this yard sale actually did really work out. And maybe there is something that you are working on that is not going well at all. Take a step back from the problem and try to look at it through God’s perspective….perhaps it is all working out just fine after all. God has a purpose and a goal in mind. His purposes are often so different from ours because we are all short-sighted. But thank the Lord that He has eternity in His heart.

May we have eternity with the Lord in our hearts too….in everything we do….

So, back to the yard sale…..in the wee hours of the morning…or was it still at night?…..we were somewhat awake, and setting things up, and people were coming….WOW…people come shopping at yard sales early! That was great because it wasn’t raining at such an early hour, the rain wasn’t even awake yet! But people were wide awake, and shopping, and we were swamped at the beginning! No pun intended, I meant swamped with people, not with water.

Then as the sky darkened, we thought that it was all over, too soon! True, not as many people, but to my amazement, people still bravely shopped. True yard salers are never turned away by rain, so I have seen with my own eyes!!

So here’s a list of all the great things that happened….
We were given TONS of things to sell!! A huge big thank you to all of you who helped us out! We were and still are very touched by your kindness.

The children got to see the generousity of others…praise the Lord! They got to see Christian love in action.

Our daughter made bracelets to sell. Our son drew illustrations for us to put on greeting cards.

Kind friends donated so deliciously to our bake sale! We ended up being full and overflowing! We thank you with all our hearts. The sales of the baked goods went excellent! Our neighbours bought some and then came back for more, thank you for such scrumptous goodies! We had cookies of various assortments, cupcakes, pies, muffins, and speciality bread. My son did so well….you know how hard it was for him not to eat all that stuff….!!! Especially when the jumbo sized, soft, chewy, look like they would melt in your mouth chocolate chip cookies came out…..

My mom graciously bought my ‘cookies-in-their-eyes’ children some of the baked goods. Thanks Mom!

Neighbourhood children came and bought at our daughter’s lemonade stand which we thought would not sell well at all! But I was amazed! It would have gone much better in a hot sunny day of course, but nevertheless, she was a trooper!

We had a lot of kind comments (about our fundraiser) from complete strangers!

There were other yard sales going on around the neighborhood, so that brought out more people!

Many thanks to my dear friend who came and helped out so much, and to my enthusiastic, supportive mom, and to my wonderful husband, and last but not least, my strong and generous son, and kind-hearted daughter. Without all of you, this yard sale would not have been such a success!!!

Many thanks to our friends for the the sweet, fresh strawberries. They sold really well!

During the whole yard sale, we keep on looking up at the sky to watch the clouds to see what the rain would be doing next. Then I got thinking…we need to be looking up all the time, not just during the rainstorm. But it is often the difficult times that make us look up the the Lord.

Set your mind on things above and not on the things of this earth.

Keep your heart in eternity…..

In God’s eyes, the rained out yard sale taught all of us some wonderful things…things that cannot be stopped by rain. We saw people’s kindness, got lots of encouragement from others and overall had a great time!

My son said he wants to do another yard sale….we still have enough stuff for another worthwhile yard sale…..so we are praying about what day to do it…..and if it rains again…that’s in the Lord’s good hands…

Waiting for a Precious Little One is waiting for a Promise......After he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise..Hebrews 6:15

A rainbow is a sign of God’s promise.  It was first given to Noah in Genesis; then in Revelation the rainbow is seen around the throne of the Lord.  God’s promises are faithful for all times;  His promise of mercy has endured through all generations.  Ezekiel also described a rainbow around the throne, and the Lord said to him, “Stand up on your feet and I will speak to you”  The Lord has so many things He wants to teach us while we are waiting….

Waiting…. and waiting…. and waiting….. the adoption process is exhausting.  From where to we get the strength to wait? 

From the One who is on the Throne of Grace….

Our Lord is waiting too…for us to come to Him…and how patient and merciful He is.

Let us therefore come boldly

unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy,

and find grace to help in time of need.

We are learning alot on this adoption journey.  We are learning alot about God’s heart.  And we are learning that there is someone who often gets forgotten.  What about those babies who have no one to stand up for them?  Completely defenseless, alone, innocent, completely alive, and completely a person…the unborn baby.  What we have learned about the needs of the unborn child is mind boggling – heart wrenching. 

The Cry That is Never Heard

I am out of sight and out of mind,

A home for me, can anyone find?

Will there be a family waiting with open arms?

Someone there to keep me safe from harm?

I am defenseless, all alone,

With no one to hear my plea.

When we first started out on this adoption journey, we found that Canadian adoption resources were few and far between.  So we said to each other,  there needs to be more Canadian adoption websites!!  One of the many purposes of creating this website is to build up ways to help families who are trying to adopt like we are.  Obstacle after obstacle stands in the way, yet through it all, God’s voice still calls….His heart still reaches out to the little one who has no family to call their own. 

We are always looking for Canadian adoption resources and here’s a great website to check out!  We hope it will be helpful to many families.  We have so little adoption support here in Canada that is is so exciting to find resources like these.

Is that like me?  Have I turned the King down?  The Lord has called each of us to a certain task.  How do we respond to God’s calling?  Look at this example of obedience.  Peter and Andrew were called in Matthew 4:19 and straightway they left their nets and followed Jesus.  Matthew was collecting taxes when Jesus called him and right away he left it all and followed Jesus. My prayer is that during this hard road to follow the Lord’s calling to adopt, that I will not turn the King down.  He has prepared much and many things are ready……it is so true…..the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few.

When the Lord Calls.....

A mighty King came to set them free from something much worse than Rome. He set them free from their bondage of sin. He came and worked in a way unexpected. He came not as a warrior raging physical wars, yet fighting battles in another way – in a way that all people across the whole world could be saved.

The Lord is still at work in our lives in a mighty way – maybe not in a showy way. Sometimes it is easy to see God’s hand of protection and guidance. But other times, His way is calm and still – perhaps hard to notice.

Just like when He walked with the people when He was here, His ways were hard for them to understand. As He walked by the shores of Galilee, He was, and still is today, the mighty, majestic King, but some people missed His glory.

He wasn’t what they were looking for,

but He was exactly what they needed.

May we trust His heart when we do not see His hand. He has never left our side.

The children and I were doing devotions together and we weren’t even reading about the story of the wise men.   I forget what started us on this topic, but we got talking about their journey and what difficulties they may have encountered on the way.   Did they ever feel like throwing in the towel?  How close did they come to giving up?  It must have been a grueling journey.  And when they finally got to Israel they logically went to the palace because they were, after all, coming to visit a new king.  But no, He wasn’t at the palace. How many other times in their journey did it seem all wrong?

We feel like that right now, because the adoption journey is long, without a known end in sight.  We honestly feel like giving up many times.  Those wise men kept on going and I wonder what motivated them?  What gave them the courage? 

We don’t know how the wise men kept on trekking along, but we know how we can.  Follow the star.  The Lord Jesus is the Bright and Morning Star, the One who knows the way.  Look to the One who can lead us. Keep our eyes on the goal- that is Christ.  Keep looking up.

Lift your eyes unto the heavens...Isaiah 51...a beautiful chapter

It seems that Hong Kong is completely not an option right now for us since no one in Ontario will take families adopting from Hong Kong.  So we are praying about domestic and other countries.  Please pray for us at this transition time.

 Adoption is all about waiting.  But waiting is so very hard!  Mary Magdalene and Jesus’ disciples came to Jesus’ tomb on that eventful morning.  What a day it was!  The tomb was empty!  Things about waiting are jumping out at me these days because of all the waiting we have to do trying to find out answers about adoption.  John 20:10 jumped out at me this weekend, “Then the disciples went away again unto their own home”   They left, but someone waited….

 Mary Magdalene stood alone at the empty tomb pouring out her broken heart.  As the tears poured out, the Lord Jesus Himself came to her in her saddest misery.  She saw Jesus standing there but she did not recognize Him until He spoke her name.  Then can you imagine what joy must have overwhelmed her!! 

 And all this because she waited…

 Because she lingered just that little bit longer by the empty tomb.  After the others had all gone, she waited and waited….

 May we too stay and wait a little longer.  For when we do, the Lord Himself will come when our hearts are filled with tears, and He will bring the greatest news we could ever hear.  He will say our name.  And we will call Him master.  There is no greater joy in all the world than to have the Creator of the Universe call you by your name and for you to respond to His call. 

 The Lord loves you and will comfort you.  Just wait on Him.  Trust that He who rose from the dead has it all in His hands with perfect timing. 

 May we wait for Him and then we will see our Lord Jesus in all  His risen glory.

Pray that the Lord will open the door, He makes all things beautiful in His time.

First, we tried China, it seems that China is changing and is making it very hard for international adoptions. We were told that the wait time is 7-12 years now.

We have family in Hong Kong so of course it makes sense for us to look into adopting from Hong Kong. We have been in touch with orphanages in Hong Kong and the HK government. They are very willing to work with Canada, they work with America all the time….but no one in Ontario can help us. We are still in the process of finding out if Hong Kong is possible. Waiting ….and waiting for answers…

We are so stuck right now. Please pray for us to know what to do next. Is Hong Kong a closed door too? If so, then where to turn next? These and many other difficulties we have found on this journey.

Please let us know if we can help you in any way. We know that many others are also wanting to adopt but find it very hard.
